The 2024 Summer Olympics highlighted some prolific talents in all types of disciplinaries. Especially in terms of the female Olympians. Goals and scores were unmatched in soccer, relay, and hurdles. You know, the activities we regular humans would solely receive an “A for attendance” award for. Clearly we can’t all be decorated super-humans with insane stamina. So while competing with Sha’carri Richardson’s legs of steel might be a challenge, you can match the Olympic star’s aesthetics in other ways.

As a historic event during which women were first denied participation rights – I think it’s safe to say that much has happened, but little has changed. Many female athletes must still abide to dress-codes that leave many of them feeling overly vulnerable to the male gaze. Therefor I strongly believe the eccentric nail art many Olympians enjoy wearing isn’t solely a form of vanity, but means to take control over how they decorate their body. After years of training and months of preparation to compete at such a monumental sports event, a little bit of color and creative expression is deserved. 

Richardson is well known for showing up, showing out, and competing in fabulous hair-dos and manicures.
